City Poem

city sleeps
white light on the street
gravel on my palms
preacher speaking psalms

"can you lend me some money, brother?"
all choked up
that jacket
must be 10 years old
can of soup spilled
over the pavement
into a drain

parkway ghosts
lighthouse without coast
fountain by the inn
dumpster-diving men
